LAST CALL: History of the Haitian Revolution
LAST CALL: History of the Haitian Revolution
This course will explore the history of the colony of St. Domingue, from its beginnings as a series of settlements in the northwestern side of Hispaniola, to becoming the richest colony in the world. We will explore what I call the multiple haitian revolutions, from that of the creoles, to the petit blancs, to the Black maroon rebellions. We will explore the highly rare language used in the 1801 and 1805 Constitutions, becoming the first in the world to abolish slavery. Finally, we will explore the multiple unifications with the eastern part of the island, until the Dominican Independence from Haiti in 1844.
This course is taught online and avalable worldwide. The course is taught on Wednesdays, 6:30-9:30 EST (NEW YORK TIME).
